Does my iPhone support eSIM?
Most iPhones from recent years support eSIM. Two things decide whether you can use a travel eSIM: the model, and whether the phone is locked to one network.
Which iPhone models support eSIM
iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and every iPhone released after them support eSIM, as do iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later.
Some iPhone models sold in mainland China do not support eSIM. If you bought your iPhone there, check it using the steps below.
How to check in Settings
Open Settings → Mobile Service (called Cellular in some regions). If you see "Add eSIM" — or "Add Cellular Plan" on older versions of iOS — your iPhone supports eSIM.
How to check that your iPhone is not locked
Open Settings → General → About and look for Carrier Lock (Network Provider Lock in some regions).
"No SIM restrictions" means your iPhone is unlocked and can use a travel eSIM. Anything else means it is locked to your operator — ask them to unlock it before you travel.
