Is your phone eSIM compatible?

An eSIM only works on a phone that has an eSIM chip and is not locked to one carrier. Here is the full list, a 30-second check and the exceptions to watch for.

Checked against Apple, Google and Samsung’s own lists: October 2026

iPhone

iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and every later model.

Android

Google Pixel 4 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Galaxy Z Fold and Flip, and more.

Unlocked

Your phone must not be locked to your home carrier.

The Voyafi app is currently available for iPhone. An Android version is planned; until then, Android phones on this list cannot buy through Voyafi.

Check your phone in 30 seconds

Do this before you buy. It works on any phone, whatever the model.

Dial *#06#

Open the Phone app and dial *#06#. If a 32-digit number labelled EID appears, your phone supports eSIM.

Look for “Add eSIM”

iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service (or Cellular). Android: open your SIM settings. If there is an option to add an eSIM, your phone supports it.

Check the carrier lock

iPhone: Settings → General → About. “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock means your iPhone is unlocked. Android: ask your carrier.

  • Bought in Hong Kong or Macao: some models sold there use two physical SIM cards instead of an eSIM. Use the *#06# check.
  • Bought in Türkiye and first set up before 23 June 2020: eSIM is switched on after you back up, erase and set up the iPhone again.

eSIM compatible Android phones

From the manufacturers’ own lists. Regional versions of the same model can differ, so use the *#06# check as well.

Other brands

Many recent Motorola, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and other phones have eSIM, but often only in some models or countries. The *#06# check is the reliable way to know.

eSIM compatibility: common questions

Can I keep my own SIM card while using an eSIM?
Yes. Every eSIM-compatible iPhone can use a physical SIM and an eSIM at the same time, so your own number keeps working while the travel eSIM handles data.
How many eSIMs can I store on my iPhone?
Apple says an iPhone can hold eight or more eSIMs. iPhone 13 and later can have two of them active at the same time.
My phone is locked to my carrier. What can I do?
Only your carrier can unlock it, so ask them well before you travel. A locked phone cannot install another operator’s eSIM.
Does the Voyafi app check my phone before I pay?
Yes. The app checks that your iPhone supports eSIM before you pay.
